It was inspiring to see 3t Drilling Systems’ advanced drilling simulation technology helping shape the next generation of Saudi Arabian oil and gas engineers. The Center for Integrative Petroleum Research (CIPR) at the College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences in Dhahran partnered with the IADC and SPE King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals Student Chapters to host the Well Control Challenge 2025 event.

During the challenge, participants trained and competed using 3t Drilling Systems DrillSIM:600 and DrillSIM:Educator simulators, bringing real-world drilling challenges into a safe, controlled environment.
Driving Innovation in Well Control Training
The Well Control Challenge is more than a competition; it is a platform for petroleum engineering students to demonstrate their skills in managing critical well control scenarios. CIPR’s adoption of 3t Drilling Systems technology reflects its commitment to immersive, hands-on learning experiences that prepare future engineers for the demands of the global energy industry.
The DrillSIM technology used by the students at the CIPR event included:
-
DrillSIM:600 is an advanced cyber-based simulator that replicates the rig floor environment with realistic controls, rig sounds, 3D graphics, and advanced well control scenarios for a truly immersive learning experience.
-
DrillSIM:Educator is a cutting-edge classroom-based simulator designed for interactive teaching and group exercises. It combines theoretical learning with practical simulation, enabling instructors to manage multiple students simultaneously.
Impact on Learning
By leveraging these simulators, CIPR provides students with risk-free, realistic experience that bridges the gap between theory and practice. This approach enhances competency, confidence, and decision-making skills.
"It’s great to see our advanced drilling simulation technology being used to help the next generation of oil and gas engineers. Simulation technology like DrillSIM:600 and DrillSIM:Educator empowers students to experience real-world drilling challenges in a safe and controlled environment."
